Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour 2010 Season Launching March 31st

26 March 2010

26 March 2010, Kuta-Bali:  The 2010 season of the Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour will kick off on March 31st at Padma Beach in Bali with a press conference and launch party starting at 5:00 pm.

Specially invited members of the business, tourism, government, surfing and media communities of Bali and Jakarta will attend the beachside event, and of special significance at this the beginning of the seventh year of the ISC Tour will be the signing of a landmark 3-year sponsorship agreement by Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia.

Coca-Cola has been the title sponsor of the ISC Tour for the last year and a half, and according to CCAI Director Bruce Waterfield the Tour has proven its worth and value to the community as a whole, resulting in this next step forward.

“By committing to this 3-year sponsorship agreement, we are sending a clear signal that we are in this for the long-term, not just to make a media splash and then move on to something else.  Indonesia’s surfers have loads of talent but require support in order to get to the next level, and with the ISC they have the means to develop and display that talent to a national and international audience.  We are very delighted to have a part in it,” explained Waterfield.

“And we are not only supporting professional surfing, but our tractors and trucks are cleaning up Bali beaches each day, we’re placing trash cans all around, our umbrellas are giving shade, and our coolers are keeping drinks cold. We want everyone to enjoy Bali and Indonesia’s waves and beaches, both tourists and local alike. So by helping out the community with these sustainable projects like the surfing tour, beach cleaning, and other environmental projects, we create positive example for other major corporations to follow,” he added.

Over the last 6 years, the ISC has grown from a fledgling mostly volunteer organization to an internationally recognized name in the surfing world, due primarily to the dedication and commitment of the ISC’s CEO Tipi Jabrik and the major surf brand sponsors based in Bali including Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Rusty, Billabong, and Oakley.

“Having this 3-year commitment of support from one of the oldest and most respected brand names in the world to share with our Indonesian surfers and the surf industry here in Indonesia is a dream come true for me,” said Jabrik.  “As a professional surfer, father, and resident of Bali, it is extremely gratifying to know that we can continue to help our young surfers make their dreams of becoming pro surfers come true,” he concluded.

The 2010 Coca-Cola ISC Tour season will start off with the Oakley Pro 2010 6-star event at Canggu Beach that will run from April 1-10.  Next up will be the Rusty Rumble in Da Jungle 6-star event at Sanur from April 26 to May 16, then the 6-star prime Rip Curl West Sumbawa Pro from May 20-30, the 6-star Reef Bali Pro at Padma Beach, The Rip Curl Cup at Padang-Padang from July 27-August 25, the 6-star prime Rote Open on the island of Rote from September 9-15, the Rip Curl Surf and Music Festival at Kuta Beach on October 24, and the season will wrap up with the 6-star prime Quiksilver Open at Keramas Beach from November 1-6.  (Note:  Most of the events have a waiting period to allow the contest to run in only the best waves conditions possible).

In addition to the professional star-rated events listed above, the Coca-Cola ISC Tour also supports Junior and Pro Junior surfing with the Rusty GromFest, Rip Curl GromSearch, and Quiksilver’s King of the Groms and Oakley Pro Junior events, as well includes Women’s, Pro Junior, Master’s, and Longboarding divisions within selected pro events.
