Phuket -Thailand: Quiksilver Thailand in conjunction with Surfing Thailand is pleased to announce that the second annual Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2010 will be held at Kata Beach in Phuket from September 22 – 26, 2010.

Surfers from all over South East Asia are expected to compete in this event that will have three divisions of competition (Men’s Open, Women’s Open, and Longboard) offering a total prize purse of over $7,500 USD (240,000 THB).  The Men’s Open winner will receive 50,000 THB, the Women’s Open winner 30,000 THB, and the Longboard winner 30,000 THB.  First to fourth places in each division will receive cash, trophies and prize packs from Quiksilver and other sponsors.

Last year over 100 surfers from Thailand, Australia, Japan, France, South Africa, Indonesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore competed in the two day Island Crown event, and this year promises to be bigger and better with a myriad of events and activities held over the 5-day period that will entice and entertain both surfers and non-surfers alike.

Along with the professionally run international surfing competition, spectators and participants will be treated to concerts, parties, cultural shows, awareness presentations, surf instruction clinics, and a whole lot of fun on the beach.

Endorsed and supported by both government and public sector organizations, the Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2010 will provide local Thai surfers the opportunity to gain valuable experience competing at an international level, getting them familiar with the rules and regulations of ISA sanctioned events and opening the door to competing in ISA competitions held throughout South Asia and the world.

The International Surfing Association recently recognized Surfing Thailand as the governing body for surfing in Thailand.

The Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition takes place during what is typically called the “Low Season”, though surfers have long termed this period the “Surf Season”, and the event brings to light yet another activity which both locals and visitors can enjoy during the Southwest Monsoon, helping to further endorse Phuket as a year-round holiday destination.

The Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2010 is sponsored/supported by Quiksilver Thailand, Surfing Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Nok Air, Ibis Hotel, Jim Beam, Singha Light Beer, 95.5 Virgin Hitz Radio, MTV, Action Asia Magazine, SurfTime Magazine, Lines Magazine, Thailand Surfrider Magazine and the Asian Surfing Championships.
