Kuta, Bali November 16, 2011 – Big props go out to Surfer Girl team rider Pua who brought home the 1st place trophy in the Under 14 Girls Division and teammate Tiana who finished in third place in the Under 12 Girls Division of the final Magic Wave MSC Surf Series event of the year at Kuta Beach last Sunday. It was a history-making day for the entire Surfer Girl team, and nobody was more proud than team manager Michaela.
“The girls all did so good out there today, even when the wave conditions were difficult on the high tide. They were so excited and happy to finish the year so well, and with trophies too! They are looking forward to next year’s contests already. As their team manager, you can imagine how proud of them I am!” she exclaimed.
Surfer Girl is a proud sponsor of the Magic Wave MSC Surf Series and it has been great to see how much progress the contestants have made during the year. “You could really see the level of the girls has stepped up so much today in the final. All the girls were surfing great and I am so proud. It shows me that anything is possible for the future of these girls,” said Bruce Hansel, expat Bali board shaper from Hawaii and proud father of Under 12 finalist Cinta Hansel.
Surfer Girl is proud to be a part of the growth of these young ladies and to support them in their passion for surfing, and is committed to supporting this and the next generation of talented young women.
Another very important part of the day’s activities on Sunday was a paddle out ceremony in honor of Drs. Rizani Udsa Karnadna, who passed away on the 16th of October at 70 years of age. Though Drs. Rizani was not a surfer himself, he devoted much of his time in the early years working with Kim “Fly” Bradley and others to develop organized surfing here in Bali, first with the Bali Surfing Club in 1979 and then eventually becoming president of the Indonesian Surfing Association (INSA) in 1990.
The Magic Wave MSC Surf Series is a yearly contest series dedicated to boys and girls 14 years of age and below, which allows them a forum in which to develop their surfing skills and indulge their passion for surfing with their friends and family in a structured environment. This is where Bali’s future generation of surfers is being nurtured and trained.
