13 May 2009, Sanur-Bali:  2004 ISC Champion Pepen Hendrik pulled in and raced through not one but three barrel sections and mixed in a couple of big turns to get the wave of the day and a perfect 10 score at the Rusty Rumble in Da Jungle 6 star Coca-Cola ISC contest today.  At the horn, his Round 3 total heat score of 17.50 had his nearest competitor needing a combination score of 13.75 to take over first place.

The Indian Ocean came alive today and produced several hours of lighting fast tubes on the East Coast of Bali, just a few days before the end of the three-week waiting period.  The 3-4 foot waves were smacking the reef and giving the boys everything from overhead to waist high waves with which to pull into, rip apart, float over, or boost airs from…and they did it all that and then some!

Round 3 kicked off at just 8:00 am as the tide was coming up, and through the morning conditions were very consistent with all heats getting some nice sets pushing through.  The wind was not much of a factor for most of the day, and when Round 3 was finished the Masters (Over 35) Division paddled out for a couple heats to have a go.  These men may have a few years on the younger crew, but they haven’t slowed down a bit and gave those waves some punishment!

The tide peaked at around noon and slowed things down a bit, but as the swell is not forecasted to last much past Thursday, a confab between Contest Director and Rusty GM Kane Faint, ISC CEO Tipi Jabrik, and ISC Surfers Reps Dede Suryana and Rahtu Suargita resulted in the decision to push on and complete Round 4 in order to provide the best opportunity for optimum conditions for the final day tomorrow.

It was a regular footers day, and when the horn blew the end of the last heat of Round 4 there were no longer any goofy footers left to advance into the Quarterfinals.  Mega Semadhi, Wayan “Kopling” Wirtama, and Mustofa Jekson were the lone goofy footers in Round 4, and all eventually fell to the vicious onslaught of the regular footers, leaving defending ISC Champion Dede Suryana to fight it out with Devis Ratif, Tipi Jabrik to take on Made Artha, Wayan “Ompong” Budayasa to try and bring down the blazing Pepen Hendrik, and Wayan “Betet” Mertha to figure out a way to beat 2007 ISC Champ Lee Wilson in the Quarterfinals.

This action packed day of surfing will no doubt be followed up by an equally exciting finish to the Rusty Rumble in Da Jungle tomorrow, with the Men’s Pro and the Masters closing it out for the first Coca-Cola ISC Pro and Masters Division event of the year.

The waiting period for the Rusty Rumble in Da Jungle event started on the 26th of April and the contest will be completed tomorrow, May 14, just two days before the last day of the waiting period.  Keep track of this and all Coca-Cola ISC Tour events by checking www.isctour.com for reports and photos from each day’s action.
