1 April 2011, Canggu-Bali:  There was no fooling around on this April 1st as Round 1 of the 6 star ISC/ASC Oakley Pro 2011 was completed in excellent 2-4 foot surf at Bali’s favorite surfing playground of Canggu Beach today.

The signup sheet was overfull with not enough empty places in the 64 man heat draw, so four trial heats were required to parse things down and complete the Round 1 contestant list.  The action got started at 7:30 am on a rising tide, the perfect set up for the first event of the Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour season.

A welcome surprise for the audience but not for the unlucky fourth heat trialists was the participation of Rizal Tanjung in the event.  Tanjung took time off of the tour last year to focus on his business obligations, but looks to be back and in great shape to challenge the younger surfers for another title.

At about 9 am the trials were completed and the lineup for Round 1 was set.  But before the official start of the round, MC Lorca Lueras called for a moment of silent prayer for long-time friend and ISC Beach Marshall Ketet “Jarut” Lasia Nadi, who passed away on December 12th 2010.  A special XXXXL event shirt was placed on a chair where he would have been sitting, in his memory.

Then on to Round 1 action, where highlights included another ISC veteran, Made “Bol” Adi Putra, whose hiatus from last year’s tour was due to an injury and subsequent rehabilitation of his knee.  He is back in form and had no trouble winning his heat.

The first young standout was Ende Supriatna from West Java, who in Heat 2 punched out a wave score of 5.75 (out of 10) and a total points in a heat of 9.75 (out of 20), but was later trumped by Soma Warsoma in 4 whose 6.00 was the highest single wave score of the day and who also ended up with the highest heat score of the day, a 10.50.

The waves conditions remained good though the late morning and into the early afternoon, but with another 13 days remaining in the 14 day waiting period the organizers elected to call it a day with the completion of Round 1 at just after 1:00 pm.

The competition will resume tomorrow morning at 6:30 am with Round 2

Consistent with the ISC’s mission to “Go Green” at every event, the largest possible beverage containers were provided to the ISC and Oakley staff, reusable plastic cups and mugs were used and washed afterwards, GUS provided their custom waterless toilet, and Oakley found a great catering service that provided lunch to all in nature’s own recyclable packaging.

Babak Pertama Pembukaan Oakley Pro 2011 di Canggu, Bali – Bukan Sekedar Kompetisi!

1 April 2011, Canggu-Bali: Bukan hanya sekedar kompetisi!

Babak 1 pun dimulai, dimana highlight event kali ini veteran ISC Made “Bol” Adi Putra langsung tampil dominan.

Semuanya demi tujuan agar mudah didaur ulang.
