Traditional Balinese Ceremony Kicks-Off the Oakley ASP World Pro Junior

02 October 2010

The 2010 Oakley ASP World Pro Junior kicked-off this morning with a traditional Balinese blessing and Barong Dance. The opening ceremony served to pay homage to the goodness of nature and initiate a harmonious connection with the ocean for the duration of the contest period. All of the athletes not only participated, but received individual blessings as well.

Today marked the first day of the two-week waiting period, from October 2-13. Contest Director, Beau Emerton, deemed the conditions contestable and got the event off and running immediately. “It’s great to be here for the 2010 Bali Oakley World Pro Junior. We got a great start to the day with a really great opening ceremony as well as the first and second rounds of the women’s so it’s good to kick-off the event on the first day [of the waiting period]. We’re looking forward to some great swell throughout the week.”

Stay tuned for more from the 2010 Oakley ASP World Pro Junior.
