Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge Trials at Keramas Set for October 6th

30 September 2009

1 October 2009, Kuta-Bali:  After the incredible inaugural Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge last October that saw Hawaii’s Dusty Payne win the biggest pro junior finals money in history, a whopping $20,000 USD, over France’s Marc Lacomare, the boys are coming back to Bali back again this year to do it again.

Touted as the richest prize purse in Pro Junior competition history, the Oakley Pro Junior Global Challenge Final will kick off on October 6th with a Trial event for local Indonesian surfers at Keramas where the winner will receive a wildcard into the main event.  Since there are only two wildcards available, and Oakley Indonesia has announced that their team rider Dewa Ardika is their wildcard, the competition will be fierce between the rest of the local pro juniors for the remaining spot and the chance for fame and the loads of cash on offer.

Last year’s Trials winner Garut Widiarta made it into the quarterfinals by beating Hawaiian hot shot and tournament favorite Sebastian Zietz, before being bested by eventual runner up Marc Lacomare. His equal 5th place finish was rewarded by a check for $3,500 USD.

In addition to a chance for the wildcard spot, the Indonesian pro juniors will be racking up valuable Coca-Cola ISC Pro Junior Division points in the Trials, which will be added to their points from the previous pro junior events and towards their run for the ISC Pro Junior Championship title.

So all you under 20 year old and under Indonesian pro junior surfers, call the Coca-Cola ISC office at 768 293 to sign up now, then be at Keramas Beach at 6:30 AM on Tuesday morning October 6 ready to surf your guts out!

The Oakley Pro Junior Global Championships will take place over a 10-day waiting period from the 7-17th of October with four days of actual competition.  It has a total $75,000 USD prize purse with $20,000 USD going to the winner.
