22 June 2011, Jakarta-Indonesia: Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and the Quiksilver Foundation together with Garuda, The Harris Hotel and the Indonesian Surfing Championships invite you to a special press conference at the Harris Hotel on Kuta Beach at 5:30 pm to meet five of surfing’s biggest and most “Real” legends; Mark Richards, Tom Carroll, Martin Potter, Cheyne Horan, and Jake Paterson.

The press conference has been organized as a way to directly communicate to the press and public why these 5 champions are in Bali. They are giving up their valuable time to join us in our efforts to help get Bali Beaches Clean. Through their careers both as pro surfers and as surf industry icons they have spent considerable time in Indonesia and surfing arguably some of the best waves in the world in some of the most idyllic environments a surfer could wish for. Seeing this as an opportunity to give something back, they all jumped at the chance to come and help out.

Surfing has played such an important part in the development of the tourism industry of Bali and as a gateway to other destinations throughout Indonesia. However, infrastructure development has not been able to keep pace with the increasing population or tourism growth, and waste management has become a huge concern to both the residents of Bali and the global community alike that visit its shores in hopes of enjoying its once pristine beaches and shore line.

We would like to invite the surf community, surf media and all interested parties to come to the press conference and learn about the Bali’s Big Eco Weekend, an event whose purpose is to bring awareness to the growing problems of waste management on Bali's beaches. We'll explain about all the event activities that will run over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July including the Quiksilver “King of the Grom’s” surfing competition, the Lifeguard race, live music and movies on the sand, Bali's biggest sea turtle release, the BEACH CLEAN UP program, the Legends vs. Locals Surf Challenge (featuring from Indonesia Dede Suryana, Tipi Jabrik, Andre Julian and Ketut Menda) and then finish with and awards presentation and rocking out on Sunday evening on the sands of Kuta Beach.

Heaps of instant prizes will be given out on both days highlighted by a MR Retro Twin Fin Surf Pack and a Jake Paterson Surf Pack.

There will be lots of opportunities over the two days to meet the legends, have a chat, learn what you can do to help get Bali clean and healthy, and maybe get the odd tip or two on how to improve your surfing. We look forward to seeing you there and getting the rare opportunity to meet, talk and get your photo taken with these five legends that have brought so much to surfing.
